The Misericorde Sisters who founded St. Mary’s Hospital a century ago set out to respond to the needs of the community. Their original goal remains today at St. Mary’s. Therefore, we’ve developed innovative and efficient ways to meet our customers’ needs in non-traditional ways. The following services and programs exemplify St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center’s commitment to responding to the needs of our community.
Mom/Baby Home Visit Program
Nurses visit new mothers and their infants in their homes to answer questions, check the baby, and provide follow-up instructions. New parents find this service invaluable because specially trained nurses answer questions regarding feeding issues, post-partum care, and other concerns. Nurses ensure the health of the baby and the mother in the comfort of their own home.
A Woman’s Place
A Woman’s Place is based on the premise that women need to be informed and educated in terms of prevention and good health. A Woman’s Place is located across the street from St. Mary’s Hospital at 1727 Shawano Avenue. Educational programs, one-on-one sessions, the Resource Center and more are available. Call (920) 498-4205 for hours or with questions.
Asthma Education
This group meets five times a year to address various issues that affect asthma sufferers and those who care for, work with and are concerned about them. Participants gain support from others as they learn about living with asthma.
Mobile Meals
Seniors and shut-ins appreciate hot, nutritious meals that are delivered to their homes by the Mobile Meals workers. St. Mary’s care extends beyond the medical center’s walls. Every day our meal delivery service is reaching out to those in need.
Red Cross Babysitter Training
Specially trained Emergency Department nurses work with young people to teach them to be effective babysitters. These sessions are offered four times a year.
S.A.N.E.
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program provides specially trained nurses to gather medical information in a sensitive, non-threatening way, and administer first aid in a gentle, caring manner. SANE nurses provide information to help victims sort through concerns and regain control of their lives.
T.A.K.E. CARE
Geared to seniors, T.A.K.E. CARE answers questions on topics including: prescription and over-the-counter medications, alcohol use, doctor/patient relationships, highway and pedestrian safety, and healthy lifestyles. A 35-minute slide presentation is followed by a question and answer period.
Look Good . . . Feel Better
“Look Good…Feel Better” is a free program, offering information and guidance to help patients who are undergoing cancer treatment learn ways to enhance their appearance. The program is designed to help these patients cope with the often unpleasant side effects of cancer. Certified cosmotologists are specially trained to deal with the effects most often experienced while undergoing cancer treatment. The program gives patients(both men and women) a sense of control over some of the changes they may experience.
Bike Helmet Safety Coalition
St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center is an original member of the Coalition, and is pleased to help educate our community on the dangers of bicycle related head injuries and how they can be prevented.
River/Bay Cleanup Day
This is just one of the community-wide programs St. Mary’s participates in as part of our goal to have reverence for the earth. Groups of people meet to clean up litter in neighborhood parks, along the river bank and shoreline, and here on our campus. A clean environment is a healthy environment.
Medicare Helper Program
The Medicare Helper Program assists seniors, free of charge, in organizing their paperwork and setting upa personalized system for handling Medicare and insurance paperwork.
The Missions Program
St. Mary’s Hospital is committed to helping those in need, whether they are around the corner or around the world. Medical supplies that cannot be used here in the States are collected and shipped to Third World countries where supplies are low and demand is high. Several times each year, staff members from St. Mary’s visit these countries to deliver supplies and goodwill.
Kiddie Tour Program
First and second grade students can be seen touring the halls on Friday afternoons as part of our Mary Guild Kiddie Tour Program. Students experience the sights and sounds of a hospital under the best ofcircumstances, helping to assure a less fearful time if they ever arrive as a patient.
Speakers Bureau
As a way of giving back to our community, St. Mary’s is part of a speaker’s bureau that offers presentations from a variety of healthprofessionals at no charge to local organizations, schools or businesses.
