At St. Mary’s Every Delivery is Special
Having a baby is a time filled with joy, a time for celebration. It’s also a time when soothing touches can make all the difference. Touches like single room maternity care, personal care maternity nurses, beautifully decorated, home-like birthing suites and unique accommodations and classes that allow your family to share in the joy of childbirth. These are the touches that make every delivery at St. Mary’s Family Birthing Center special.
“Suite” Additions at No Additional Cost
St. Mary’s is proud to be the only Green Bay hospital to offer single room maternity care. This unique concept in childbirthing allows mothers to experience labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care all in the privacy and comfort of a beautifully decorated, spacious birthing suite, eliminating the need to be moved from room to room. The suites are available at a similar price to other hospitals’ “standard” maternity rooms. VCRs, televisions, private bathrooms and soft, inviting decor combine to provide a soothing, intimate and private setting for the birth of your baby.
The birthing suites are not only beautiful, they’re also functional. To ensure maximum safety for you and your baby, each suite contains the most technologically advanced childbirthing equipment available — Adel delivery equipment, OB ultrasound and a central monitoring system. This system provides nurses with continuous updates on the well-being of all mothers and babies, allowing them to respond quickly to unexpected situations. If necessary, cesarean sections are performed in our surgery area adjacent to the Family Birthing Center.
Special Attention When You Need it Most
We know having a baby is a time when you’ll appreciate the support of staff who understand your special needs. Our nurses are on hand at all times to answer your questions, provide support or simply lend a friendly ear.
Each St. Mary’s personal care nurse has received extensive training in the care of mothers and babies. Your specially trained personal care maternity nurse will be with you every step of the way, from labor through postpartum, to make sure you and your baby receive the best possible care throughout your stay.
Our nurses are committed to excellence in patient care. And that commitment shows in the fact that our physicians and nurses have been certified in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. At St. Mary’s Family Birthing Center, you receive the special care you deserve at a time when you need it most.
Exercise Your Birthing Options
To make sure you remain as comfortable as possible during postpartum care, you are allowed to decide how much time, and when, your new baby is in your room. You may choose to have your baby in your room at all times or you may decide to spend some private time relaxing while St. Mary’s full-service nursery cares for your baby.
At St. Mary’s, we know having a baby is a special occasion. That’s why we do whatever it takes to provide you with alternatives that are designed to make the birth of your baby as comfortable and memorable as possible.
We Make “Birth Days” a Family Affair
Preparing for the birth of a baby is as important for siblings and other family members as it is for the new parents. At St. Mary’s we take a holistic approach to childbirth. We encourage family members to become actively involved in the birthing experience. That’s why we offer a variety of special classes and informational tours designed especially to help grandparents, brothers, sisters and other loved ones prepare for the arrival of the newest member of the family. In fact, we even have a special Family Lounge and a Sibling Activity Area, complete with toys.
Each birthing suite contains special accommodations so your support person can be present at the birth of your baby and stay with you overnight if you wish. At St. Mary’s, we’ve taken care to make your baby’s birth day as special and memorable as possible for every member of your family.
In Anticipation of Your New Arrival
The birth of a baby is one of the most special occasions any family can share. And at St. Mary’s, we offer the following classes and tours to help all family members prepare for this joyous event:
Natural Family Planning Consultations: is a means of either achieving or avoiding pregnancy based upon a couple’s knowledge and recognition of their natural cycles of fertility and infertility
Natural Family Planning is taught by a staff member of St. Mary’s Hospital at A Woman’s Place (across from St. Mary’s Hospital). Every effort is made to meet the individual needs of each person and each couple. Therefore, NFP classes are held on an individual basis. Call (920) 498-4205 for more information.
Tours: Tour our birthing suites and Family Birthing Center to help answer questions you may have regarding the arrival of your newest family member. Children are always welcome to join you on your tour. It helps them prepare for their new role in the family.
Prenatal Classes: These classes are designed to prepare families during early pregnancy or even before they’re expecting. The classes help families understand the emotional and physical changes that accompany pregnancy and childbirth.
Lamaze Class: This six week program prepares the expectant mother for the childbirth experience. It also prepares her support person to be an effective coach during childbirth. The classes provide complete information on the birth process, comforting exercises and all birthing options available.
St. Mary’s Lamaze classes also include valuable information on the postpartum experience, infant care, breast-feeding, bottle feeding and other concerns shared by many parents. Call 920-498-4212 for class schedule.
Weekend Lamaze: This weekend class offers the same valuable educational information as our traditional Lamaze classes but it’s done over the course of a single weekend. The class is designed for couples with busy schedules and limited time.
Refresher Lamaze: This two session program is for moms and coaches who have previously experienced the birth of a child and have had a previous Lamaze class. This course provides a review of the labor process, breathing techniques and insight into sibling reactions to the impending birth.
Personal Nurse: When you return your “Personal Nurse” card, a St. Mary’s Labor and Delivery nurse will contact you to discuss questions and concerns you may have regarding your pregnancy, labor and delivery.
Certified Lactation Consultant and Breast-feeding Specialist Sessions: St. Mary’s has trained breast-feeding specialists available to assist you in getting breast-feeding off to a good start.
