Fibroids Linked to High Blood Pressure
Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in the uterus. And as many as 77% of premenopausal women have them. They rarely become cancerous. However, fibroids can cause miscarriage or infertility. Plus, they also can cause so much pain that for some women, the only relief comes at the cost of a hysterectomy.
That could change, however. A study of more than 100,000 women found that blood pressure may be key in the formation of fibroids. For every 10-point increase in blood pressure, a woman’s risk of fibroids rose by about 10%. These results offer hope, said the authors of this study. They said that research should be conducted to see whether fibroid growth could be controlled or even reversed through blood pressure management.
