Pick Up Aerobics to Prevent Falls
Older women now may have a more enjoyable option than weight training to help them prevent falls: dance-based aerobics.
In one study, women ages 72 to 80 attended one-hour dance-aerobic classes three times a week. Each class included movements modified for older students, such as fast walking and knee bends.
After 12 weeks, the women improved their balance and agility. These two abilities can decrease the risk of falls. The women also missed few classes because they found the dance moves so enjoyable.
