Excess Pounds and Salt Raise Risk for Heart Failure

In one study, women and men who were considered overweight and had the highest sodium intake also had the highest congestive heart failure risk. These adults had body mass indexes greater than 25.

To combat risks, researchers recommend women limit sodium intake to less than 2,400 milligrams daily. They also note that skipping salt may be just as important as losing extra pounds to reduce risk of congestive heart failure.
