Bone Density Screening
Tuesdays, January 22, February 26, and March 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (test takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes)
Purpose is to screen for abnormal bone mass density in women. Bone density of the heel is measured via ultrasound. Recommended for women older than age 40 who have NOT been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia and have NOT been screened in the last six months. Screenings are given by appointment only.

Osteoporosis Management Program
Thursdays, February 21, 28, and March 7, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
This three-week series is designed for individuals diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia (bone loss). Each week will feature an educational component, a Q & A session, and 30 minutes of exercise appropriate for individuals with osteoporosis. A signed permission slip or prescription from your doctor is required to participate in the exercise sessions.

The course provides information regarding the American Heart Association Infant and Child Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, and prevention of the most common fatal injuries in infants and children. Hey Mom, Lets Do Lunch!

A mother-to-mother breastfeeding support group that meets once a month during the lunch hour. Babies are welcome to attend with moms. A different aspect of breastfeeding will be addressed each month. A box lunch will be served.

Parenting Classes

These classes are designed for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The first hour consists of input on the individual topic; the second hour provides time for sharing individual parenting concerns.

Girl Talk 1

This program is for girls ages 10 to 12 and their mothers (or other significant female adults). Focus is on changes that occur as a girl matures. Topics include growing up, menstruation, communication, and friendship. Mothers and daughters separate for part of the programgirls do a craft activity while moms meet for a discussion.

Breast Self-Examination Class

Look Good . . . Feel Better
Mondays, January 7, February 4, March 4, and April 1, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
As a national American Cancer Society (ACS) public service program, Look Good . . . Feel Better helps women receiving cancer treatments learn how to manage the appearance-related side effects of those treatments.
The ACS Loan Closet, housed at A Womans Place, loans wigs, scarves, breast prostheses, and bras. People who have experienced loss due to cancer donate items. This gift to the community is meant for women who have no insurance and/or cannot afford to buy these items.
