Tuesdays Together

Who Decides If You Can’t?
Tuesday, September 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Talk with a panel of experts on the importance of having a durable power of attorney for health care in place. Advance directives, including financial powers of attorney, powers of attorney for health care, and living wills will be addressed. Whether you’re 18 or 80 years old, you’ll want to have a say in what happens to you and your family!

Everywoman’s Journal Program
Tuesday evenings, October 1 and December 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday afternoon, November 19, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
This two-hour program combines reflections and feedback into actions that increase our well-being—body, mind, and spirit. Courtesy of the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation (WWHF) Rural Women’s Health Network, each participant will receive a free journal and guidebook on how to journal proactively. Space is limited to 15 women per session.

Depression and Anxiety Disorders in Women
Tuesday, November 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Depression and anxiety disorders are “the common cold” of emotional disorders, and women’s experience with these disorders is not necessarily the same as that of men. This presentation will explore general information about depression and anxiety, signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders, and effective strategies for preventing and coping with anxiety and depression.

Educational Health Screenings

Bone Density Screening
Thursday, September 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by appointment
Meet with health care professionals and get your questions answered to help determine if you may be at risk for osteoporosis. Bone density of the heel is measured via ultrasound to screen for abnormal bone mass density in women—this is not a diagnostic exam. Recommended for women older than age 40 who have NOT been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia and have NOT been screened in the last year.
Fee: $15 per person

Badger Heart Party Screening
Tuesday, September 24, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., by appointment
Held at St. Mary’s Third Floor Cardiac Rehabilitation Department
FREE cardiovascular screening for women older than age 35 (fasting recommended). Screening includes tours of the hospital Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Unit, and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. Screenings are funded by Sue Ann Thompson’s Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Asthma Screening
Tuesday, October 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., by appointment
Asthma is the most common chronic disease for children younger than age 18, and exercise brings on asthma episodes in 80 to 90 percent of all people with asthma. A team of health professionals and volunteers led by local allergists Drs. Richard Cooley and James Warpinski, along with St. Mary’s Hospital Respiratory Care staff, will help determine whether your breathing difficulties might be asthma. Screening is FREE and open to all ages.

Get-Togethers

Osteoporosis Management Program
Thursdays, October 3, 10, and 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This three-week series is designed for individuals diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia (bone loss). Each week will feature an educational component, a Q & A session, and 30 minutes of exercise appropriate for individuals with osteoporosis. A signed permission slip or prescription from your doctor is required to participate in the exercise sessions.
Presenters: Jodi Parker, Pharmacist, St. Mary’s Hospital; Lindi Magnuson, Physical Therapist, St. Mary’s Hospital Rehabilitation Services; and Jean Bouche, Registered Dietitian, St. Mary’s Hospital

Feldenkrais: Awareness Through Movement
Mondays, November 11, 18, and 25
Afternoon session from 1 to 2 p.m. or evening session from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
Attend the Feldenkrais series to become more in tune with habitual movement patterns and learn new options to improve coordination, relaxation, and flexibility. Loose clothing, blanket/mat, and two towels required.

Healthy Families

Maybe a Baby—Think Ahead!
Wednesday, September 11 or November 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Couples learn how to plan and prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Topics include nutrition, healthy lifestyles, the couple relationship, financial planning, and time management.
Presenter: Sue Costello, MS, Women’s Health Educator, St. Mary’s Hospital
Fee: $10 per couple

Parenting Classes
Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
September 18: Providing a Nurturing Environment
October 16: Discipline
This class is designed for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The first hour consists of input on the individual topic; the second hour provides time for sharing individual parenting concerns.

Fee: $10 per family/per session

Baby Massage
Tuesdays, September 24 through October 15, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Parents can enhance bonding and ease fussiness by learning to massage their baby.
Instructor: Lynnee Baxter, BS, RMT, CIMI
Fee: $75 for four-week session—fee includes book and massage oil

Girl Talk
Saturday, September 28 or November 2, from 9 a.m. to noon
This program is for girls ages 10 to 12 and their mothers—or other significant female adults. Focus is on changes that occur as a girl matures. Topics include growing up, menstruation, communication, and friendship. Mothers and daughters separate for part of the program—girls do a craft activity while moms meet for a discussion.

Fertility Awareness
Wednesday, October 9 or December 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn the physical and emotional signs of fertility and infertility and how to chart female fertility patterns and cycles. Open to couples and individual women.

Look Good . . . Feel Better
Mondays, September 9, October 7, November 4, and December 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
As a national American Cancer Society (ACS) public service program, Look Good . . . Feel Better helps women receiving cancer treatments learn how to manage the appearance-related side effects of those treatments.

Mother-to-Mother Series
Wednesdays, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
For breast-feeding moms and their babies.

PRIME PLUS/Red Hot Mamas® Menopause Support Group NEW!

Many women lack the necessary information they need to confront the physiological and emotional changes that may occur at menopause. Learn together and empower one another to be educated consumers in your health care and active participants in the management of your menopause! Space is limited.

Breast Self-Examination Class
Mondays, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
September 23: Caffeine and Breast Changes
October 21: Misconceptions About Breast Cancer
November 18: Breast Pain
Individual topics are discussed, along with education on the proper technique of breast self-examination (BSE) using educational breast models. Learn to be comfortable with the way your breasts feel and what to expect during monthly examinations.

Infertility Support Group
Wednesdays, September 25, October 23, November 20, and December 18, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Meet other couples facing similar concerns regarding infertility—share your experiences, your laughter, as well as your tears, as you develop new friendships and give each other support.

Miscarriage Support Group
Wednesdays, September 25, October 23, November 20, and December 18, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Support one another on your healing journey after the loss of a baby through miscarriage.

Taking Care of You: Powerful Tools for Caregiving NEW!
Thursdays, September 26 through October 31, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
This six-week course was developed by the Wisconsin Alliance for Family Caregivers with the focus on YOU—the caregiver. It is designed to teach you how to care for yourself while caring for a parent or a spouse. Register by calling the Aging Resource Center of Brown County at 920-448-4300.

Reproductive Cancer Screenings for Women

Programs cover a reproductive cancer screening that includes a health assessment conducted by a Prevea Clinic nurse practitioner, a pelvic exam, and a Pap test. Call 920-498-4205 to determine eligibility for the following programs.

Marti Spittell Endowment
In order to qualify for this screening, you must:

  • be a female living in northeast Wisconsin between the ages of 18 and 39
  • have no health insurance or
  • unable to pay deductibles or copayments
  • meet income guidelines.

Wisconsin Well Woman’s Program (WWWP)
In order to qualify for this program, you must:

  • be between the ages of 35 and 64 have no health insurance or be
  • unable to pay deductibles or copayments
  • meet income guidelines.

*Since women between the ages of 50 to 64 are at higher risk for developing breast cancer, this service includes a FREE mammogram for eligible participants.


To ensure your place in the programs, fees must be received FOUR days prior to class date. Please send class fee to: A Woman’s Place, 1727 Shawano Avenue, Suite 101, Green Bay, WI 54303.

Class Cancellations: In the event a class must be cancelled, registrants will be notified in advance and an appropriate credit or refund will be issued.

Credit Policy: Individual class credits will be issued if A Woman’s Place cancels a class or you have a valid medical excuse from a doctor. Class credits must be used within six months of the cancellation date.

Refund Policy: Full refunds will be given only if A Woman’s Place cancels a class. A $10 processing fee will be charged for any exceptions.
