Street Smarts: Protect Yourself Against Crime

Street Smarts: Protect Yourself Against Crime

Women do not have to be martial arts experts to lower their risk of falling victim to crime. You can help protect yourself with these precautions:

  • Always have your keys ready for a quick entry to your home, car, or office building.
  • Keep your car locked—even while driving. Look inside your car before getting in.
  • Choose a well-lighted route when walking by yourself. Avoid bushes, alleys, and entryways. If you must be out alone at night, carry a whistle that you can use to ward off possible attackers or attract help.
  • In elevators, stand near the buttons. If attacked, press as many as you can.
  • Head for an open business or a police or fire station if someone follows you.
  • Finally, consider taking a self-defense class. It can teach you how to fight off attackers and how to carry yourself assertively so you don’t appear vulnerable.

Join us for Self-Defense for Women on June 20 and June 27. For more information, check out the program listing on page 4 or call 920-498-4205.
