Osteoporosis Overview
Tuesday, September 18
Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because bone loss happens without symptoms. By the time a bone breaks, it is often too late to protect yourself. Learn who is at greatest risk and steps you can take to prevent this disease.

Bone Density Screening
Tuesday, September 25, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (test takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes)
Purpose is to screen for abnormal bone mass density in women. Recommended for women older than age 40 who have NOT been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia.

Osteoporosis Management Program NEW!
Thursdays, October 4, 11, and 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Each week of this 3-week program will feature an educational component, a Q & A session, and 30 minutes of exercise appropriate for individuals with osteoporosis. A signed permission slip or prescription from your doctor is required to participate in the exercise sessions.

Feldenkrais: Awareness Through Movement
Mondays, October 8, 15, 22, and 29
Afternoon session from 1 to 2 p.m., or
Evening session from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
Attend the Feldenkrais series to become more in tune with your body’s habitual movement patterns and learn new options to improve coordination, relaxation, and flexibility. Loose clothing, blanket/mat, and two towels required.

Self Defense for Women
Series of two Tuesday evening sessions:
October 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., and October 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
An empowering “hands-on,” nonmartial-
arts-based seminar providing practical self-defense techniques that help increase your overall awareness. Space is limited.
Instructor: Kim Talbot, Talbot’s Martial Arts Center, in partnership with the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services.

Menopause Series
Thursdays, November 1, 8, and 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
This 3-part series includes information on the physical and emotional changes that accompany menopause, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, and hormone replacement therapy.

The Holidays Are Coming . . .
Wednesday, October 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get a jump start on some healthy options to the traditional holiday fare with this “learning luncheon” where you’ll be served up some great-tasting recipes for family gatherings, party appetizers, as well as lots of ideas to make the holidays just a little bit healthier!

Infant/Child CPR
Monday, September 10, from noon to 3 p.m.
Monday, November 19, from noon to 3 p.m.
The course provides information regarding the American Heart Association Infant and Child Chain of Survival and prevention of the
most common fatal injuries in infants and children. Maximum of six participants.

Maybe a Baby—Think Ahead!
Wednesdays, September 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., or November 7, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Couples learn how to plan and prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Topics include nutrition, healthy lifestyles, the couple’s relationship, financial planning, and time management.

Four-Week Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Class NEW!

Fertility Awareness

Learn the physical and emotional signs of fertility and infertility and how to chart female fertility patterns and cycles. Open to couples and individual women.

“Hey Mom, Let’s Do Lunch!” NEW!
Wednesdays, September 26, October 24, and November 28, from noon to 1 p.m.
A mother-to-mother breastfeeding support group that meets once a month during the lunch hour. Babies are welcome to attend with moms. A different aspect of breastfeeding will be addressed each month. A box lunch will be served.

Parenting Classes

These classes are designed for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The first hour consists of input on the individual topic; the second hour provides time for sharing individual
parenting concerns.

Girl Talk 1
Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, or Saturday, December 1, from 9 a.m. to noon
This program is for girls ages 10 to 12 and their mothers (or other significant female adults). Focus is on changes that occur as a girl matures. Topics include growing up, menstruation, communication, and friendship.

Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to noon
This is a follow-up program for girls and their mothers (or other significant female adults) who have completed the Girl Talk 1 program. Specific topics are offered for discussion at each session. This session will focus on stress management.

Breast Self-Examination Class NEW!
Mondays, September 17 or November 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
This class provides education on the proper technique of breast self-examination (BSE), using educational breast models. Learn to be comfortable with the way your breasts feel and what to expect during monthly examinations.

Infertility Support Group
Tuesdays, September 25, October 30, or November 27, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Are you struggling with fertility issues? Meet other couples facing the same concerns—share your experiences, your laughter, as well as your tears, as you develop new friendships and give each other support.

Postpartum Adjustment Group

Attend this group to help understand the changes you’re experiencing as a new mother.

Stay-At-Home Moms Group
Wednesdays, September 26, October 24, and November 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Talk to other mothers who stay at home while raising their children. Share experiences and develop a network of friends.

Look Good . . . Feel Better
Mondays, September 10, October 1, November 5, December 3, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
As a national American Cancer Society (ACS) public service program, Look Good . . . Feel Better helps women receiving cancer treatments learn how to manage the appearance-related side effects of those treatments.
The ACS’s Loan Closet is also housed at A Woman’s Place. The Loan Closet provides wigs, scarves, turbans, breast prostheses, and bras donated by women or their families, as well as some businesses, who have experienced loss due to cancer. This gift to the community is meant to be given to women who have no insurance and/or cannot afford to buy these items.
