Social Accountability
As a community hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center provides services that extend beyond traditional boundaries of medicine. The following services and programs exemplify St. Mary’s commitment to social accountability.
Wee Care Program
The St. Mary’s Hospital Family Birthing Center sends specially trained nurses into the home of a newborn to educate the family, provide early intervention of medical problems, and assess the home environment to identify areas where further assistance may be beneficial.
Asthma Education
This group meets five times a year to address various issues that affect asthma sufferers and those who care for, worth with, and are concerned about them.
Speakers Bureau
As a way of giving back to our community, St. Mary’s Hospital teams with its partners at Prevea Clinic and St. Vincent Hospital to offer presentations from a variety of health professionals at no charge to local organizations, schools or businesses.
Look Good, Feel Better
This free program offers information and guidance to patients undergoing cancer treatment to enhance their appearance. The program is designed to help cancer patients cope with the often-unpleasant side effects of cancer. Certified cosmetologists are specially trained to deal with the effects most often experienced while undergoing cancer treatments. The program gives patients (both men and women) a sense of control over some of the changes they may experience.
Medicare Helper Program
This free program assists seniors with organizing their paperwork and setting up a personalized system for handling Medicare and insurance paperwork.
A Woman’s Place
The health resource center and conference rooms at A Woman’s Place, located across the street from St. Mary’s Hospital, provide opportunities for educational and integrative therapies for men and women. Most programs are presented free of charge, and the public can access the health information hub that is the consumer lending library. Resources include books, CDs, periodicals and Internet access.
Babysitter Training
Specially trained Emergency Department nurses work with young people to teach child development issues, home safety and good techniques for an effective babysitter.
Mobile Meals
