Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s only membership association devoted to environmentally responsible health care, has announced that St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay are among its 2009 Environmental Excellence Award winners. These competitive awards are given within the health care sector to institutions for outstanding programs to reduce the facilities’ environmental footprint.
St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center received the Environmental Leadership Circle Award as a Sustained Member. This elite award is has been given to only 30 hosptials nationwide with only three hosptials in Wisconsin having earned this distinction.
St. Vincent Hospital won a Partner for Change Award.
Practice Greenhealth honored its top performers at the Environmental Excellence Awards recently at a dinner ceremony in Chicago during CleanMed, the premier Global Conference on Environmentally Sustainable Health Care. Awards were presented in seven categories to more than 140 facilities. Practice Greenhealth will sponsor the planting of 100 trees in Haiti for each award presented.
“We are very pleased to see so many leading health systems striving to improve their environmental performance,” stated Practice Greenhealth Executive Director Bob Jarboe. “Each of our Environmental Excellence awards represents a tremendous effort on the part of hospital staff to reduce the health and environmental impacts associated with health delivery.”
