Dr. Richard Rolston, formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of Prevea Health, has been named CEO of the Primary Care Division of Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS). In his new position, Dr. Rolston is part of the HSHS Leadership Team and will provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for the Primary Care Integration programs and Ambulatory Care in the HSHS physician alignment model. He will focus on the development and coordination of the System’s primary care physician relationships in the communities served by the System’s 13 hospitals.
Dr. Rolston joined Prevea in 2005. During his time as President and CEO of that organization, Dr. Rolston was instrumental in the growth of many aspects of that group, including reorganization of the clinic and its productivity standards; spearheading a modern and up-to-date approach to quality care among the providers; strengthening the relationship and advancing the partnership with St. Mary’s and St. Vincent Hospitals; redesigning the Prevea management team for the most effective leadership; and orchestrating a significant financial turnaround plan that led Prevea to the achievement of a profitable bottom line. He was an internal consultant to HSHS from September 2008 until his appointment as CEO January 26.
Joining Dr. Rolston on the HSHS System Leadership Team is Dr. Frank Mikell as CEO of the System’s Specialty Care Division. Dr. Mikell previously led the Prairie Cardiovascular in Springfield, Illinois, as its President. Prairie Cardiovascular is a nationally-recognized leader in cardiovascular services and a primary partner of HSHS hospitals in Illinois. In his new role, Dr. Mikell will provide leadership and direction for the development of the Specialty Care component of the physician alignment model.
Together, Drs. Rolston and Mikell bring their physician leadership experience to HSHS to develop new models for physician integration throughout the System and bring current relationships and models to a higher level in each of the System’s four regions. They play key roles in the System’s new Care Integration Project, which builds on the mission of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis and focuses on care for the whole person in the Franciscan tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. Through this project, HSHS will define integrated patient care models to meet the needs of those served and develop physician and clinician relationships that strengthen this approach and allow for the expansion of cooperative ambulatory care services, thereby increasing ease of patient access, seamless coordination of medical care, and patient satisfaction.
Succeeding Dr. Rolston as President and Chief Executive Officer at Prevea is Dr. Ashok Rai, who has been with Prevea since 2001. Dr. Rai served as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Prevea since 2006. He also served as a Medical Director and Physician Quality Director at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center. In his new role, Dr. Rai will be integral in working with HSHS system leaders on furthering their ministry in the Green Bay area.
Hospital Sisters Health System is a Roman Catholic health care mission founded to continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Sponsored by the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, HSHS is dedicated to serving all people, including the poor and the needy, at each of its 13 local systems in Wisconsin and Illinois. Hospital Sisters Health System provides state-of-the-art health care framed in traditional values taught by St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi.
The mission of the Hospital Sisters has been carried forward for more than 130 years in the United States. In Wisconsin, HSHS has two hospitals in Green Bay—St. Vincent Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center—as well as hospitals in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire and Sheboygan. HSHS is also part owner of Prevea Health. In Illinois, HSHS hospitals are located in Belleville, Breese, Decatur, Effingham, Highland, Litchfield, Springfield and Streator.
