Our donors really say it all…

Sue Bellin and Carol and Isidore Kwaterski

Carol and Isidore (Ise) Kwaterski have been associated with St. Mary’s Hospital for more than a generation. Carol served on the first Friends Board of the Hospital. Ise, now retired from the trucking industry, still remembers walking to the hospital when he was just a boy, serving at Mass in the old hospital chapel. “We’ve given to many charities, but St. Mary’s has been a little closer to our hearts. If it weren’t for St. Mary’s Hospital, I wouldn’t be here today,” he asserts, adding, “I was also blessed with good doctors.”

Ise’s wife, Carol, remains a treasured supporter who helped keep St. Mary’s in the family by recommending that her daughter join the Friends Board. “I knew our daughter Susan would be a good choice, and was happy to see her follow in my footsteps at St. Mary’s Hospital.”

Drs. Gordon Haugan and Mary Meyer

Drs. Gordon Haugan and Mary Meyer were both young pediatricians when they began their careers at St. Mary’s Hospital. Now celebrating their 25th anniversary together, they still recall
their early years at the hospital. “I felt embraced by the nursing staff when I came to St. Mary’s—and you could just feel the genuineness and dedication here,” says Dr. Meyer, adding, “The religious foundation of the hospital is very meaningful to us as well.” Dr. Haugan adds, “St. Mary’s gives so much back to the community you can’t help but feel the sense of mission. I am grateful to the hospital, and I am very comfortable having made a long-term planned gift that we put into place for St. Mary’s some years ago. We’re confident that our donations are always used with care. We know St. Mary’s will be good stewards of our planned gift long after
we are gone.”

Madeline and Bob Harlan

“Ever since I trained as a nurse in a small Iowa hospital, I have been inspired by the compassion and dedication of the Hospital Sisters,” says Madeline Harlan. “We’ve had some very proud and gratifying moments at St. Mary’s—during the Lambeau Field Inaugural Ball for the hospital endowment, at Toast of the Town dinners, and at fund-raising rallies for the new ER. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve raised charitable dollars that helped the hospital build a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department to serve our patients. But for me personally, the most moving moment was seeing the results of all that effort firsthand in my own family, as I watched the caring staff at St. Mary’s lift Bob from sickness back to health just a few years ago. In my opinion, there couldn’t be a worthier charitable cause right now than St. Mary’s—our West Side hospital.”
