HRT Linked to Hearing Loss in
Older Women
Hearing loss is common amongolder adults. And, at least for olderwomen, hormones—specificallyprogestin—may play an importantrole in hearing ability.
In a small study, women ages60 to 86 had their hearingtested. Those taking combinationhormone replacement therapy(HRT)—both estrogen andprogestin—had the lowest scores. They had poorer hearing than dideither women taking estrogenalone or women who used no HRT.
If you take combination HRT,talk with your doctor about anychanges in your hearing.
