Raising the Rafters May Raise Health Risks

Women are more apt to snore after age 50. Being overweight also ups the risk. Women also are likelier to snore if they smoke at least 10 cigarettes a day or don’t exercise regularly.

Snoring could signal sleep apnea—a condition that causes brief lapses in breathing during sleep. In addition, snoring may boost the risk for high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack. So, if you’re waking yourself—or others—up with your snoring, let your doctor know.
