Caring for Your Lenses—And Your Eyes
You depend on your eyes—and your contact lenses— to look and see your best. So treat them right. Doing so can help you avoid painful eye infections. Even if you’ve been wearing contact lenses for years, don’t let your lens-care routine slide. Here are the basics to remember:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before handling your lenses.
- Always use fresh solution on your lenses.
- Consider using a “rub and rinse” technique to clean them, rather than a no-rub method.
- Clean your case by rinsing it with water and letting it air-dry. Replace your case every three to six months.
- Don’t wear daily-wear contacts to bed. Even wearing extended-wear lenses while sleeping can increase your risk for infection.
- Replace lenses as directed.
