Massage Basics

There’s nothing like a good backrub or foot massage at the end of a long day. Nothing can take the place of a massage by a certified massage therapist. But there are some simple things you can do to help your loved ones feel better. Bring a friend or spouse. Free.

Keep Your Bones Strong and Healthy

Thursdays, September 14, 21, and 28, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
If you’ve been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia or are just interested in learning about what you can do to prevent bone loss, consider this three-session class. You’ll learn about diet, medical management, medication, and exercise, and how they relate to bone density from a team of experts from St. Mary’s Hospital and Prevea Clinic.

Keeping a journal helps us learn how our mental and physical health is affected by our bodies’ responses to all kinds of life experiences. Feldenkrais: Awareness Through Movement

Mondays, October 9, 16, and 23, 1 to 2 p.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Attend the Feldenkrais series to become more in tune with habitual movement patterns and learn new options to improve coordination, relaxation, and flexibility. Loose clothing, blanket/mat, and two towels required.

T’ai Chi Series

Wednesdays, October 18 through November 22, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Get all the benefits of t’ai chi: exercise, muscle toning, relaxation, balance, increased concentration, and more in this class. Wear comfortable clothing.

Educational Health Screenings

Bone Density Screening

Tuesday, September 12, 9 a.m. to noon, by appointment
A simple test that uses ultrasound to measure the bone density of your heel can help you learn whether you may be at risk of developing osteoporosis. While this is not a diagnostic exam, a health care professional will discuss the results and answer your questions. Recommended for women age 40 and older.
Fee: $15 per person

Cardiovascular Assessment

Thursdays, by appointment
This assessment will measure your blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol levels, fasting blood sugar, C-reactive protein, body mass index, EKG, and other factors to determine your 10-year risk of developing heart disease. A cardiac registered nurse will review the results with you. A 12-hour fast is required.
Fee: $40. Scholarships are available.

Healthy Families

Girl Talk

Saturday, September 23 or November 11, 9 a.m. to noon
This program is for girls ages 10 to 12 and their mothers or other significant female adults. Focus is on changes that occur as a girl matures. Topics include growing up, menstruation, communication, and friendship. Mothers and daughters separate for part of the program—girls do a craft activity while moms meet for a discussion.

Fee: $15 per family

CPR for Family and Friends

Monday, October 2, noon to 3 p.m. This class is designed for family members of individuals who are at risk for sudden cardiac death, new parents, grandparents, and other laypeople who want to learn rescue skills for their loved ones. Adult, child, and infant CPR are covered. There is no written exam and you will receive a participation card.
Fee: $30 per person, which includes the book

Parenting Your Preschooler

Mondays, October 9 through 30, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The healthy relationships you create with your preschooler can last a lifetime. Learn the importance of listening to your children, dealing with their feelings, and gaining their cooperation. Space is limited.

It’s a Girl’s Life. Lead It!

Saturday, October 21, 10 a.m. to noon at A Woman’s Place
This program is for girls ages 10 to 14 and their mothers/guardians. Topics include defining healthy relationships, dealing with peer pressure, building conflict-resolution skills, increasing self-esteem, identifying stress and depression, understanding eating disorders, and tips on personal hygiene for a changing body. Register by Wednesday, October 11 by calling 920-469-4860, ext. 18.

Fertility Awareness

Learn the physical and emotional signs of fertility and infertility and how to chart female fertility patterns and cycles. Open to couples and individual women.

Look Good … Feel Better

Mondays, September 11, October 2, November 6, and December 4, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
As a national American Cancer Society (ACS) public service program, Look Good … Feel Better helps women receiving cancer treatments learn how to manage appearance-related side effects. Free.

Elizabeth Ministry

Elizabeth Ministry offers companionship and support to women during times of personal crisis. Women are assigned a volunteer partner who has gone through a similar experience. The volunteer provides friendship and emotional support. Call Sue Costello, MS, Women’s Health Educator/St. Mary’s Hospital, at 920-498-4203.

To ensure your place in the programs, fees must be received FOUR days prior to class date. Please send class fee to: A Woman’s Place, 1727 Shawano Avenue, Suite 101, Green Bay, WI 54303.

Class Cancellations: In the event a class must be cancelled, registrants will be notified in advance and an appropriate credit or refund will be issued.

Credit Policy: Individual class credits will be issued if A Woman’s Place cancels a class or you have a valid medical excuse from a doctor. Class credits must be used within six months of the cancellation date.

Refund Policy: Full refunds will be given only if A Woman’s Place cancels a class. A $10 processing fee will be charged for any exceptions.
