Look Good Feel Better Program
Look Good Feel Better is the first step toward renewed self-esteem, confidence,
and emotional recovery for women cancer patients undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy.
LOOK GOOD…FEEL BETTER is a free, national public service program that helps women
undergoing cancer treatment learn to cope with the appearance-related side effects
of treatment. Side effects such as hair loss and changes in complexion and fingernails
are often emotionally and psychologically traumatizing.
LOOK GOOD…FEEL BETTER provides education, information and support in a group setting.
Sessions are generally offered at hospitals, comprehensive cancer centers,
American Cancer Society offices and other community settings. One-on-one
consultations may also be offered by participating salons. In Look Good…Feel Better
sessions, volunteer cosmetologists (all certified professionals) teach women how
to enhance their appearance using specific make-up techniques. Each woman learns
to perform her own makeover using complimentary cosmetics and skin care products.
Patients also learn how to disguise hair loss using wigs, turbans, scarves, and
various accessories. Look Good…Feel Better is product-neutral (no specific product,
brand or manufacturer is recommended or endorsed) and makes no medical claims. Sessions
and materials are provided at no charge. Call 1-800-395-LOOK for more
information.
